Dosing Tips For Those Using CBD Cream

Posted on: 2 June 2021

When you take CBD capsules or gummies, it is pretty easy to narrow down your dose and then regulate how much you are taking. But when you're using CBD cream, getting the dosage right is a bit harder. The lotion or cream isn't pre-portioned, and you often need to use more CBD when you use it topically rather than taking it orally. So, how do you go about determining your correct dose and then sticking to that dose when using CBD joint creams? Here are a few tips.

Use a joint cream that comes in a pump container.

There are two different types of packaging frequently used for CBD cream. Some products come in tub or jar-like containers, the understanding being that you scoop the product out either with your fingers or a spatula. Others come in a bottle with a pump dispenser. If you have the choice, you definitely want to buy a CBD cream with a pump dispenser. This way, you can more easily gauge how much you are using. For example, you may learn that you need 1 pump or 2 pumps per application.

If you have a certain CBD cream that you really like and it only comes in a tub or jar, consider purchasing a separate pump container and transferring it to that container.

Calculate how much CBD is in one pump.

Most CBD cream containers tell you how many milligrams of CBD are in the entire container. For example, if you buy 2000 mg CBD joint cream, you know there are 2000 mg of CBD in the entire thing. You then need to calculate how many mg of CBD are in one pump. To do that, measure the volume of CBD cream expelled in one pump. (You can use a teaspoon to do this.) Then, measure how many pumps are in your entire jar. Divide the total mg of CBD by the number of pumps in your jar, and you now know how many mg of CBD are in each pump.

Start With 100 mg of CBD per day.

If you were taking CBD orally, taking 100 mg per day would be quite a lot. But this is actually a pretty small dose when using CBD topically. Once you know how many pumps give you 100 mg of CBD, start by using that amount each day, spread out across 2-3 applications. If this is not enough, add an additional 50 mg per day at a time until you reach the dose that's effective for you. Most people need between 100 mg and 400 mg per day for adequate relief.

Now that you have a better idea of how to dose your CBD cream, go for it! You'll love the relief you get when using the right dose for you.
