3 Tips For Caring For Your Skin During Laser Hair Removal

Posted on: 12 November 2015

Laser hair removal treatments are excellent for removing your hair, but they can also make your skin quite sensitive following each procedure. While your underarms and pubic area will feel the most sensitive, your legs and arms may also feel some of this sensitivity as well. In order to help make sure that your skin feels as good as possible after each procedure, there are certain things that you can do. This article will discuss 3 tips for caring for your skin while you are in the process of laser hair removal.

Apply Aloe After Treatments

Right after you have received your laser hair removal treatment, your skin will be quite sensitive. In order to provide relief to your skin, the technician performing the laser hair removal will likely apply aloe to your skin, or some other soothing cream. Aloe is great because it has a cooling effect that immediately gives you relief from any burning or stinging sensations that you may be feeling. It is a great idea to purchase some aloe for yourself so that you can apply it on your skin at home for the next couple of days after your treatment, for continued relief.

Avoid Sunburns

Because the outermost layer of your skin is much more sensitive than normal during your treatments, it is crucial that you avoid getting a sunburn. While a sunburn is never good, getting one after your laser hair removal treatment will cause you excess pain. If you can, simply try to stay out of the sun as much as you possibly can while you are going through your treatments. However, if you find that you have to be in the sun, be sure to apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your skin, and continue to apply it regularly until you are out of the sun.

Do Not Wax, Tweeze, Or Pluck Out Your Hairs

Not only will waxing, tweezing, or plucking out your hairs cause your sensitive skin a great deal of pain, it can also mess up your treatments because you are removing hairs from the next growth cycle. When you do this, the hair follicle can't be burned off by the laser, and the hair will keep growing back in. Also the wax on your sensitive skin may cause rashes and pain, and could even remove the top layer of your skin due to the heat and harshness of the product.
